Dalam kotbahnya 24 Oktober 2013 yang lalu, Paus Fransiskus mengingatkan kita akan Panggilan Kesucian Universal:<\/p>\n

We have been re-made in Christ! What Christ has done in us is a re-creation: the blood of Christ has re-created. It is a second creation! If before the whole of our life: our body, our soul, our habits, were on the road of sin, iniquity; after this re-creation we must make the effort to walk on the path of righteousness , sanctification \u2013 use this word: holiness. All of us were baptized: at that moment, our parents – we were just children – made the act of faith in our name: \u2018I believe in Jesus Christ,\u2019 who has forgiven us our sins\u2019 I believe in Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cReally we are weak and many times, many times , we commit sins, imperfections – and is this the way of sanctification? Yes and no! If you get used to it: ‘My life is a bit so-so\u2026 I believe in Jesus Christ, but I live the way I want to\u2019 Oh, no, that will not sanctify, that is wrong! It is a contradiction! If, however, you say, \u2018I, even I am a sinner, I am weak,\u2019 and if you go always to the Lord and say: \u2018But, Lord, You have the strength, give me faith! You can make me clean,\u2019 [and if] you let yourself be healed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation \u2013 yes, even our imperfections are used along the way of sanctification.<\/p>\n

Sometimes we say \u2018Christians at half-speed\u2019, who do not take this seriously. We are holy, justified, sanctified by the blood of Christ: Take this sanctification and carry it forward!<\/p>\n

Hari ini kita peringati pesta St Fransiskus de Sales, kelahiran Perancis pada tahun 1567. Dia dikenal sebagai uskup, penulis, pengkotbah, pembimbing spiritual yang ulung dan pendiri Ordo Visitasi. Tulisannya yang paling terkenal adalah The Introduction to the Devout Life, yang masih dibaca dan dipelajari hingga kini.<\/p>\n

Berlawanan dengan pemahaman pada jamannya, dalam bukunya itu dia menunjukkan bahwa panggilan kesucian bukanlah untuk sekelompok orang elit. Ungkapan kemuridan seseorang termasuk hidup doa dan rohaninya juga pada akhirnya berbeda-beda tergantung panggilan, tanggung jawab dan aktivitasnya. Seorang bapak dalam keluarga misalnya, tidak bisa meniru cara hidup seorang biarawan dan sebaliknya seorang biarawan tidak bisa hidup seperti seorang pengusaha. Ia juga mengingatkan bahwa tak ada orang yang begitu baiknya sehingga tidak dapat dibelokkan oleh kuasa dosa, namun sebaliknya juga tidak ada orang yang begitu buruknya hingga tidak dapat diubah oleh rahmat Tuhan.<\/p>\n

Hari ini, dengan pengantaraan Santo Fransiskus de Sales, mari kita mohon rahmat keberanian menjawab panggilan akan kesucian itu seraya merenungkan sabda Tuhan ini: \u201cBukan kamu yang memilih Aku, tetapi Akulah yang memilih kamu. Dan Aku telah menetapkan kamu, supaya kamu pergi dan menghasilkan buah dan buahmu itu tetap, supaya apa yang kamu minta kepada Bapa dalam nama-Ku, diberikan-Nya kepadamu.\u201c (Yoh 15:16)<\/p>\n
