Dalam bacaan pertama, kita menyaksikan bagaimana beberapa orang Israel yang berusaha membujuk dan meyakinkan orang Israel supaya mereka juga menjalankan cara-cari dan ritus-ritus bangsa kafir. Kafir yang dimaksudkan adalah bangsa Yunani. Saat itu di bawah pemerintahan Aleksander Agung, Bangsa Yunani berhasil memperluas kekuasaan dan wilayahnya sampai ke India dan karena itu, Israel dan seluruh Bangsa Arab takluk di bawah Aleksander.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Banyak orang Israel yang karena ketakutan, akhirnya memilih menyesuaikan diri dengan budaya Yunani. Mereka menyembunyikan bekas luka sunatnya, mereka bahkan dengan tanpa malu, meninggalkan perjanjian suci yang pernah mereka buat dengan Yahweh. Banyak orang Israel lebih-lebih kaum muda yang secara sukarela meninggalkan imannya kepada Yahweh dan menyembah berhala-berhala. Mereka bahkan memprofankan hari Sabat. Pada saat itu juga, siapa saja yang masih taat pada Hukum Taurat dan ditemukan menyimpan teks papirus Hukum Taurat juga akan dihukum mati oleh pengadilan istana. Sekalipun demikian, banyak orang Israel yang tetap memilih setia datripada menjadi penjilat dan pengkhianat terhadap janji Allah dan Hukum taurat.
\nInjil Lukas mengisahkan tentang seorang buta yang berkeras hati meminta Yesus untuk menyembuhkan dia dari kebutaannya. Hardikan dan bentakan dari orang banyak tak dia hiraukan. Baginya, yang paling utama adalah menyuarakan iman dan harapan satu-satunya pada Kristus. \u201cYesus, Anak Daud, kasihanilah aku.\u201d Orang buta ini mungkin secara fisik matanya buta tetapi hatinya tidak buta. Dia tidak mau dibutakan oleh situasi keterbatasannya. Dia tidak mau didikte oleh orang banyak yang menyuruhnya diam. Dia menolak untuk taat kepada suara mayoritas karena suara mayoritas tidak selalu benar, sebab kadang-kadang mayoritas hanya berpikir tentang kepentingannya tetapi mengabaikan mereka yang menderita dan terpinggirkan seperti orang buta tadi.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bacaan suci hari ini minimal berbicara kepada kita tentang dua nilai.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Pertama, nilai ketaatan dan kesetiaan pada Allah tidak boleh gampang dijual murah hanya karena situasi yang menuntut. Ketaatan dan kesetiaan pada Allah bukan komoditi murahan yang akan kita sangkal dan ganti ketika ada tawaran lain yang lebih menarik atau ketika kita diancam. Orang Katolik yang sejati adalah orang yang setia berpegang teguh pada ajaran Kristus sekalipun banyak suara-suara sumbang yang mengajak kita untuk berbuat sebaliknya.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kedua. Kadang-kadang kita tidak bisa selalu bergantung pada keputusan mayoritas, lebih-lebih ketika itu menyangkut kebutuhan spiritual dan kemendesakan moral yang tak bisa ditunda. Mayoritas bisa mewakili orang banyak tetapi mayoritas tidak selalu benar. Kalau semua ramai-ramai korupsi, tidak lantas membuat kita membenarkannya dan menjadikannya sebagai standar. Kalau mayoritas ramai-ramai, selingkuh dan tak setia, saya tidak mesti memilih juga hal yang sama. Sebab sungai yang kotor akan tetap menjadi sungai kotor, sekalipun banyak orang berenang di dalamnya. Amin.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A reading from the first Book of Maccabees,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong>Lk 18:35-43<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

In the first reading, we witness how some of the Israelites tried to persuade and convinced the Israelites that they also undertook the pagan nation’s ways and rites. The unbelievers that we talk in this context were the Greeks. It was under the reign of Alexander the Great, the Greeks succeeded in extending its power and territory to India and therefore, Israel and the whole Arab nation were also subordinate to Alexander.<\/p>\n

Many Israelites who, out of fear, eventually chose to adapt to Greek culture. They concealed the scars of their circumcision; they were even unashamedly, abandoning the sacred covenant they once made with Yahweh. Many Israelites especially the young generation who voluntarily abandoned\u00a0\u00a0their faith in Yahweh and worship idols. They even profaned the Sabbath. At that moment, anyone who was still obedient to the Law and found guarding the papyrus of the law of Moses would also be executed by the court. Nevertheless, many Israelites who remained faithful and obedient\u00a0\u00a0than to be traitors to the promises of God and the Law.<\/p>\n

The Gospel of Luke tells of a blind man who insisted on asking Jesus to heal him from his blindness. He ignores the shouting of the crowds. For him, the main thing was to voice his faith and his only hope in Christ. “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” This blind man might\u00a0\u00a0be physically blind but his heart was not blind. He did not want to be blinded by the situation of his physical limitations. He did not want to be dictated by the crowd who told him to be quiet. He refused to obey a majority because the majority vote is not always true, because sometimes the majority just thinks about its interests but ignores those who are suffering and marginalized like the blind man.
\nToday’s sacred readings at least speak to us about two values.<\/p>\n

First, the value of obedience and loyalty to God should not be easily sold cheap simply because of the demanding situation. Obedience and faithfulness to God is not a cheap commodity that we will deny and replace when there are another offers that are more interesting or when we are threatened. True Catholics are faithful people who hold fast to the teaching of Christ even though there are many discordant voices that invite us to do the opposite.<\/p>\n

Second. Sometimes we cannot always rely on majority decisions, especially when it comes to spiritual needs and undeniable moral urgency. The majority may represent the majority but the majority is not always true. if the majority commit corruption, it\u00a0\u00a0does not necessarily make us justify it and make it as a standard. If the majority of the crowd, are cheating and unfaithful, I do not have to choose the same thing. For a dirty river will remain a dirty river, even though many people swim in it. Amen.<\/p>\n

No quer\u00eda ser dictado por la multitud que le dijo que se callara. Se neg\u00f3 a obedecer a una mayor\u00eda porque el voto de la mayor\u00eda no siempre es correcto, porque a veces la mayor\u00eda solo piensa en sus intereses, pero ignora a los que est\u00e1n sufriendo y marginados como el ciego.<\/span><\/p>\n

Las lecturas sagradas de hoy al menos nos hablan de dos puntos de sabidur\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n

En primer lugar, el valor de la obediencia y la lealtad a Dios no deber\u00eda ser f\u00e1cil de vender barato simplemente debido a la situaci\u00f3n exigente. La obediencia y la fidelidad a Dios no es una mercanc\u00eda barata que negaremos y reemplazaremos cuando haya otras ofertas que sean m\u00e1s interesantes o cuando estemos amenazados. Los verdaderos cat\u00f3licos son personas fieles que se aferran a la ense\u00f1anza de Cristo a pesar de que hay muchas voces discordantes que nos invitan a hacer lo contrario.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Segundo. A veces no siempre podemos confiar en las decisiones de la mayor\u00eda, especialmente cuando se trata de necesidades espirituales y una urgencia moral. La mayor\u00eda puede representar a muchas personas, pero la mayor\u00eda no siempre es verdad. Si la mayor\u00eda comete corrupci\u00f3n, no necesariamente nos hace justificarla y convertirla en un est\u00e1ndar. Si la mayor\u00eda de la multitud est\u00e1 enga\u00f1ando e infiel, no tengo que elegir lo mismo. Porque un r\u00edo sucio seguir\u00e1 siendo un r\u00edo sucio, a pesar de que muchas personas nadan en \u00e9l. Am\u00e9n.<\/span><\/p>\n
