Yohanes 15: 18-21

18. “Jikalau dunia membenci kamu, ingatlah bahwa ia telah lebih dahulu membenci Aku dari pada kamu.

19. Sekiranya kamu dari dunia, tentulah dunia mengasihi kamu sebagai miliknya. Tetapi karena kamu bukan dari dunia, melainkan Aku telah memilih kamu dari dunia, sebab itulah dunia membenci kamu.

20. Ingatlah apa yang telah Kukatakan kepadamu: Seorang hamba tidaklah lebih tinggi dari pada tuannya. Jikalau mereka telah menganiaya Aku, mereka juga akan menganiaya kamu; jikalau mereka telah menuruti firman-Ku, mereka juga akan menuruti perkataanmu.

21. Tetapi semuanya itu akan mereka lakukan terhadap kamu karena nama-Ku, sebab mereka tidak mengenal Dia, yang telah mengutus Aku.

 

        Banyak orang ingin sekali membaharui dunia dengan sekian banyak ide-ide brilian dan canggih.  Mereka ingin membuat dunia semakin adil, semakin baik dan semakin indah. Intensi mereka untuk membangun dunia yang lebih indah dan lebih ideal tentu tidak salah. Namun kadang-kadang orang lupa bahwa perubahan hanya bisa terjadi ketika orang menyadari bahwa sesungguhnya Tuhanlah yang menginginkan perubahan ke arah yang lebih positif terjadi dalam dunia. Tuhan menciptakan manusia supaya manusia dengan kesadaran moral dan nuraninya, manusia dengan kesadaran bahwa dia sesungguhnya berasal dari Allah mesti pula berusaha untuk membangun dunia berdasarkan cinta Allah yang dikaruniakan  kepada dirinya.

       Hari ini dalam Injil-Nya, Yesus mengatakan: “Sekiranya kamu dari dunia, tentulah dunia mengasihi kamu sebagai miliknya. Tetapi karena kamu bukan dari dunia, melainkan Aku telah memilih kamu dari dunia, sebab itulah dunia membenci kamu.” Mencintai Yesus kadang-kadang mesti berarti bahwa kita berusaha untuk berpikir seperti Yesus berpikir, bersikap seperti Yesus berpikir, bertindak seperti Yesus bertindak dan mencintai seperti Yesus mencintai. Uskup Robert Baron menjelaskan ini dalam sebuah permenungannya tentang Prapaska.  

      Dan menjadi seperti Yesus kadang-kadang tidak selalu disukai dan tidak menjadi favorit. Selama hidup-Nya, Yesus tidak pernah menjadi tokoh favorit para ahli-ahli Taurat dan Orang-orang Farisi dan Saduki. Yesus kadang-kadang menantang semua jenis kesalehan-kesalehan yang  dibuat-buat dan palsu. Yesus menentang setiap bentuk kejahatan yang diselubungi dengan intensi-intensi tersembunyi. Yesus mengampuni dosa-dosa para pendosa, pemungut cukai, pelacur, penjahat di atas kayu salib. Yesus menyukai mereka yang bertobat sungguh-sungguh namun Yesus menghardik mereka yang mau menciptakan diri seakan-akan saleh namun sebenarnya penuh dengan maksud-maksud terselubung yang sesat. Yesus menghardik mereka bukan karena membenci mereka namun dia mau agar mereka menjadi sejati dalam kesaksian hidupnya yang benar dan bukan dibuat-buat dan penuh polesan.

       Mengikuti Yesus itu tidak selalu mudah karena banyak kali kita ditantang untuk terus merubah diri dan mentransformasi diri. Namun Yesus senantiasa ingin mengingatkan kita bahwa menjadi orang yang disukai Allah itu selalu jauh lebih mulia menjadi orang yang disukai manusia namun penuh dengan tipu muslihat dan kepalsuan. Pepatah Rusia pernah mengatakan: “It is better to be slapped by the truth, than to be kissed with a lie.” Lebih ditampar oleh kebenaran dan menjadi sadar, daripada dicium oleh kepalsuan dan larut dalam mekanisme menipu diri. Saya dan Anda sekalian diberi pilihan. Seorang hamba yang setia tidak pernah dapat mengabdi kepada dua Tuan. Amin.

John 15:18-21

You do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to his disciples: “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;  but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world,  the world hates you.

Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me”    

Many people are eager to renew the world with so many brilliant and sophisticated ideas. They want to make the world more just, much better and more beautiful. Their intention to build a more beautiful and more ideal world is certainly not wrong. But sometimes people forget that change can only happen when people realize that it is God who wants a more positive change going on in the world. God created man so that man with his moral conscience (con-sins), man with the awareness that he really comes from God must also seek to build the world based on the love of God bestowed upon him.

Today in his Gospel, Jesus says: “If you were of the world, the world would love you as his own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, that is why the world hates you.

“Loving Jesus sometimes means that we try to think as Jesus thinks, acts like Jesus acts and loves like Jesus loves. Bishop Robert Baron explained this in a reflection on Lent 2018. And being like Jesus is not always liked and not a favorite choice. During his lifetime, Jesus was never a favorite figure of the scribes and Pharisees and Sadducees. Jesus sometimes challenged all kinds of pseudo-fabricated and false piety. Jesus opposed every form of crime covered with hidden intentions. Jesus forgave the sins of sinners, tax collectors, prostitutes, criminals on the cross. Jesus liked those who repented sincerely but Jesus rebuked those who wanted to create theirselves as if godly but were are actually full of misguided veils. Jesus rebuked them not because he hated them but he wanted them to be true in their true testimony of life rather than being fake and pretentious.  Following Jesus is not always easy because many times we are challenged to keep changing and transforming ourselves. But Jesus constantly wants to remind us that being a person who is liked by God is always much more noble and precious than to be a man who pleases  humans but full of deceit and falsehood (folshuud). The Russian proverb once said: “it is better to be  slapped by the truth and become conscious, than to be kissed by falsehood and end up being in ever self-deceiving mechanisms. You and I are given a choice. A faithful servant can never serve two masters. Amen.

¹⁸ “Si el mundo los odia, sepan^[e] que Me ha odiado a Mí antes que a ustedes.

¹⁹ Si ustedes fueran del mundo, el mundo amaría lo suyo; pero como no son del mundo, sino que Yo los escogí de entre el mundo, por eso el mundo los odia.

²⁰ Acuérdense de la palabra que Yo les dije: ‘Un siervo no es mayor que su señor.’ Si Me persiguieron a Mí, también los perseguirán a ustedes; si guardaron Mi palabra, también guardarán la de ustedes.

²¹ Pero todo eso les harán por causa de Mi nombre, porque no conocen a Aquél que Me envió.

 

Muchas personas están ansiosas por renovar el mundo con tantas ideas brillantes y sofisticadas. Quieren hacer el mundo más justo, mucho mejor y más hermoso. Su intención de construir un mundo más hermoso y más ideal ciertamente no está mal. Pero a veces las personas olvidan que el cambio solo puede ocurrir cuando las personas se dan cuenta de que es Dios quien desea un cambio más positivo en el mundo. Dios creó al hombre para que el hombre con su conciencia moral, el hombre con la conciencia que realmente viene de Dios, también debe buscar y construir el mundo basado en el amor de Dios otorgado a él.
Hoy en su Evangelio, Jesús dice: “Si fueras del mundo, el mundo te amaría como suyo. Pero como no eres del mundo, pero yo te he elegido fuera del mundo, es por eso que el mundo te odia a ti.

“Amar a Jesús a veces significa que tratamos de pensar como Jesús piensa, actúar como Jesús actúa y amar como Jesús ama. El Obispo Robert Baron explicó esto en una reflexión sobre la Cuaresma 2018. Y ser como Jesús a veces no siempre es querido y no es una elección favorita. Durante su vida, Jesús nunca fue una figura favorita de los escribas, fariseos y saduceos. Jesús desafió a veces todo tipo de piedad falsa. Jesús se opuso a toda forma de crimen cubierto con intenciones ocultas. Jesús perdonó los pecados de los pecadores. recaudadores de impuestos, prostitutas, criminal en la cruz. A Jesús le gustaban los que se arrepintieron sinceramente, pero Jesús reprendió a aquellos que querían crearse como si fueran piadosos, pero estaban llenos de velos equivocados. Jesús los reprendió no porque les odiara a ellos, sino porque quería que fueran verdaderos en su testimonio de vida en lugar de ser falsos y pretenciosos. Seguir a Jesús no siempre es fácil porque muchas veces tenemos el desafío de seguir cambiando y ansificándonos a nosotros mismos. Pero Jesús constantemente quiere recordarnos que ser una persona amada por Dios es siempre mucho más noble y preciosa que ser un hombre que agrada a los humanos pero lleno de engaño y falsedad. El proverbio ruso una vez dijo: “es mejor ser abofeteado por la verdad y volverse consciente, que ser besado por la falsedad y terminar siendo un mecanismo engañador. Tú y yo tenemos una opción. Un Siervo fiel nunca puede servir a dos maestros. Amén.
