Selamat merayakan hari kamis Putih. Injil Yohanes hari ini mengisahkan peristiwa pembasuhan kaki murid-murid Yesus oleh Kristus sendiri. Sebuah kisah heroik tentang pentingnya pelayanan yang penuh kasih dan kerendahan hati.

Dikisahkan bahwa murid-murid Tuhan Yesus baru selesai dengan segala persiapan untuk perjamuan Paskah sesuai dengan hukum Taurat dan kebiasaan komunitas Yahudi. Para penginjil sebenarnya juga mau menyatakan bahwa sebenarnya persiapan belum sungguh selesai, karena di antara keduabelas murid tidak ada yang bersedia untuk merendahkan diri membasuh kaki sesama saudaranya.  Dalam tradisi Ibrani, biasanya tindakan membasuh kaki adalah tugas budak atau pembantu rumah tangga yang rendah, tetapi tampaknya tidak ada budak atau pembantu rumah tangga pada saat itu dan tak seorang pun dari mereka hendak melakukan pekerjaan yang bagi mereka adalah pekerjaan yang rendah.

Kekurangan tersebut menjadi kesempatan bagi Tuhan Yesus untuk menyampaikan dua pelajaran yang sangat mengesankan. Dia mengajar mengenai penahiran rohani (ayat 8-10) dan juga kerendahan hati (ayat 12-17). Kedua pelajaran tersebut terarah pada salib-Nya. Pentahiran diperoleh pada salib-Nya. Demikian juga, kerendahan hati yang paling luar biasa ada di salib-Nya. Dengan kata lain, layaklah bahwa “kisah pembasuhan aki ini” ini merupakan permulaan bagi kisah kematian-Nya, karena baik dengan salib maupun dengan pembasuhan ada penahiran/pembersihan dan yang paling penting ada sebuah contoh, teladan yang mau dikedepankan.  Dalam peristiwa ini kita dapat melihat tanda kasih, lambang salib.  

Pembasuhan kaki murid-murid bisa saja dilihat sebagai sebuah perbuatan yang biasa saja dan tidak dapat dianggap sebagai suatu mujizat, kecuali kalau kita memandangnya sebagai mujizat kerendahan hati. Maria baru saja mengurapi kepala-Nya, dan kini, supaya tindakan-Nya dalam merestui urapan Maria itu tidak dianggap sebagai sebuah kesombongan, Kristus pun mengimbanginya dengan sebuah tindakan merendahkan diri. Tetapi, mengapa Kristus melakukan itu? Jika kaki para murid itu memang perlu dibersihkan, mereka bisa membasuhnya sendiri. Seorang yang bijak tidak akan melakukan sesuatu hal yang janggal dan tidak lumrah, kecuali ada alasan dan pertimbangan yang baik di baliknya. Kita yakin bahwa tindakan tersebut bukanlah sekedar keisengan belaka. Tidak begitu, justru tindakan khidmat itu dilakukan dengan amat bersungguh-sungguh. Ada empat alasan yang ditegaskan di sini mengapa Kristus melakukannya:

o    Supaya Ia dapat menyaksikan kasih-Nya terhadap murid-murid-Nya (ay. 1-2).

o   Supaya Ia dapat mencontohkan kerendahan hati dan kerelaan-Nya dalam merendahkan diri (ay. 3-5).

o   Supaya Ia dapat melambangkan pembasuhan rohani, seperti yang kemudian disinggung dalam pembicaraan-Nya dengan Petrus (ay. 6-11).

o   Supaya Ia dapat memberikan sebuah teladan bagi mereka (ay. 12-17).

Kristus mengasihi murid-murid-Nya sepenuh hati, tanpa membeda-bedakan, tanpa diskriminasi. Saat perjamuan terakhir pun semua diundangnya termasuk Yudas Iskariot. Namun Yudas menolak untuk berpartisipasi secara penuh dalam perjamuan kasih itu karena dia membiarkan diri ditawan dan dibelenggu kuasa jahat dan egonya sendiri. Kristus jjuga menekankan nilai kerendahan hati dalam tindakan pembasuhan kaki ini. Demonstrasi kekuasaan keilahian Kristus justru ditunjukkan secara heroik dalam kerendahan hati membasuh kaki murid-muridnya. Yesus tidak sungkan dan enggan. Pembasuhan itu dibuatnya dengan penuh kasih dan kerendahan hati.

Seorang pemimpin sejati diukur bukan saja dari bagaimana ia memproyeksikan kekuatan dan wewenangnya tetapi juga bahkan lebih-lebih diukur dari bagaimana ia melayani dengan sepenuh kasih, dengan sepenuh hati dan juga dengan kerendahan hati.

Pelayanan yang penuh kasih dan kerendahan hati itu kadanag-kadang adalah idealisme yan sering didengung-dengungkan dengan penuh entusiasme namun pelayanan kasih dan kerendahan hati tidak bisa hanya berhenti sebagai teori dan idealisme.

Dari Yesus kita belajar bahwa kasih dan kerendahan hati adalah kualitas kristiani pengikut Kristus yang diwariskan Krristus kepada kita tidak  sebagai ajaran semata tetapi sebagai gaya hidup, sebagai jalan hidup.

Seorang yang sungguh mengasihi sesamanya, mengasihi sesamanya bukan saja dalam kata-kata yang manis dan bersahabat tetapi juga dibuktikan dalam tindakan nyata, dalam tindakan kasih dan solidaritas, dalam pelayanan yang penuh kerendahan hati. Apakah saya cukup mengasihi dan rendah hati dalam melayani?

Bienvenidos a celebrar el jueves santo. El Evangelio de Juan de hoy cuenta la historia del lavado de los pies de los discípulos de Jesús por el mismo Cristo. Una historia heroica sobre la importancia de un servicio amoroso y humilde.

Se dice que los discípulos del Señor Jesús acababan de terminar con todos los preparativos para la cena de la Pascua de acuerdo con la ley y las costumbres de la comunidad judía. Los evangelistas en realidad también quieren decir que la preparación real aún no se ha completado, porque entre los doce estudiantes nadie estaba dispuesto a humillarse para lavar los pies de sus compañeros hermanos. En la tradición hebrea, el acto de lavarse los pies suele ser el deber de un esclavo o una criada humilde, pero parece que en ese momento no había esclavos ni criadas y ninguno de ellos quería hacer un trabajo que para ellos era un trabajo de un esclavo.

Esta falta se convirtió en una oportunidad para que el Señor Jesús impartiera dos lecciones muy impresionantes. Él les enseñaba sobre la purificación espiritual (versículos 8-10) y también sobre la humildad (versículos 12-17). Las dos lecciones están dirigidas a su cruz. La purificación se obtiene en su cruz. Asimismo, la humildad más extraordinaria está en su cruz. En otras palabras, es apropiado que esta “historia de lavar los pies ” sea el comienzo de la historia de Su muerte, porque tanto con la cruz como con el lavado hubo purificación / limpieza y, lo más importante, hubo un ejemplo, un ejemplo que se presentaría. En este evento podemos ver el signo del amor, el símbolo de la cruz.

Lavar los pies de los discípulos puede verse como un acto ordinario y no puede considerarse un milagro, a menos que lo veamos como un milagro de humildad. María acababa de ungir la cabeza de Jesus, y ahora, para que esta bendición y unción de María no fueran consideradas una arrogancia, Cristo también las rehizo con un acto de condescendencia. Pero, ¿por qué Cristo hizo eso? Si los pies de los estudiantes realmente necesitan limpieza, pueden lavarse ellos mismos. Una persona sabia no hará algo que sea incómodo e inusual, a menos que haya razones y consideraciones buenas detrás de ello. Creemos que esta acción no es una mera moda. En realidad, no, precisamente el acto solemne se llevó a cabo muy en serio. Hay cuatro razones confirmadas aquí por las que Cristo lo hizo:

o Para que él pueda ser testigo de su amor por sus discípulos (vv. 1-2).

o Para que Él pueda ejemplificar su humildad y su voluntad de humillarse (vv. 3-5).

o Para que Él pueda simbolizar la limpieza espiritual, como se menciona más adelante en Su conversación con Pedro (vv. 6-11).

o Para que Él pueda darles un ejemplo (vv. 12-17).

Cristo ama a sus discípulos de todo corazón, sin discriminación. Incluso en la última cena todos eran invitados, incluido Judas Iscariote. Pero Judas se negó a participar plenamente en la cena de amor porque se dejó cautivo y encadenado por el poder del mal y su propio ego. Cristo también enfatizó el valor de la humildad en este lavado de pies. La demostración del poder de la divinidad de Cristo se mostró heroicamente en humildad para lavar los pies de sus discipulos. Jesús no dudó haciendo eso. La lavó con amor y humildad.

Un verdadero líder se mide no solo por la forma en que proyecta su fuerza y autoridad, sino también por la forma en que sirve con todo su amor, con todo su corazón y también con humildad.

El servicio que está lleno de amor y humildad es a veces idealismo, que a menudo está lleno de entusiasmo, pero el servicio de amor y humildad no puede detenerse como una teoría e idealismo.

De Jesús aprendemos que el amor y la humildad son las cualidades cristianas de los seguidores de Cristo que nos heredan de Cristo no como meras enseñanzas, sino como un estilo de vida, como una forma de vida.

Una persona que realmente se ama, se ama, no solo con palabras dulces y amistosas, sino también en la acción real, en un acto de amor y solidaridad, en un servicio lleno de humildad. ¿Soy lo suficientemente amoroso y humilde en el servicio?

Welcome to celebrate Holy Thursday. The Gospel of John today tells the story of the washing of the feet of the disciples of Jesus by Christ himself. A heroic story about the importance of a loving and humble service.

It is said that the disciples of the Lord Jesus had just finished all the preparations for the Passover meal according to the law and customs of the Jewish community. The evangelists also tells us that the actual preparation has not yet been completed, because among the twelve students no one was willing to humble themselves to wash the feet of their fellow brothers. In the Hebrew tradition, the act of washing the feet is usually the duty of a slave or a humble maid, but it seems that at that time there were no slaves or maids and none of them wanted to do a job that for them was a job of a slave.

This lack became an opportunity for the Lord Jesus to teach two very impressive lessons. He taught them about spiritual purification (verses 8-10) and also about humility (verses 12-17). The two lessons are directed to his cross. The purification is obtained in its cross. Likewise, the most extraordinary humility is in his cross. In other words, it is appropriate that this “feet-washing story” is the beginning of the story of His death, because in both the cross and the washing, there was purification / cleansing and, most importantly, there was an example, an example that would be presented. In this event we can see the sign of love, the symbol of the cross.

Washing the disciples’ feet can be seen as an ordinary act and cannot be considered a miracle, unless we see it as a miracle of humility. Mary had just anointed the head of Jesus, and now, if this blessing and anointing of Mary were not considered an arrogance, Christ also did the same to his disciples. But, why did Christ do that? If the disciples feet really needed cleaning, they could just wash themselves. A wise person will not do something that is uncomfortable and unusual, unless there are good reasons and considerations behind it. We believe that this action is not a mere fashion. Actually, no, precisely the solemn act was carried out very seriously. There are four reasons confirmed here by which Christ did it:

o So that he can be a witness to his love for his disciples (vv 1-2).

or so that He can exemplify his humility and his willingness to humble himself (vv 3-5).

or So that He can symbolize spiritual cleansing, as mentioned later in His conversation with Peter (verses 6-11).

Christ loves his disciples with all his heart, without discrimination. Even at the last dinner everyone was invited, including Judas Iscariot. But Judas refused to participate fully in that loving and friendly dinner because he was left captive and chained by the power of evil and his own ego. Christ also emphasized the value of humility in this act of feet washing. The demonstration of the power of the divinity of Christ was shown heroically in humility to wash the feet of his disciples. Jesus did not hesitate doing that. He washed it with love and humility.

A true leader is measured not only by the way he projects his strength and authority, but also by the way he serves with all his love, with all his heart and also with humility.

The service that is full of love and humility is sometimes idealism, which is often spoken full of enthusiasm, but the service of love and humility cannot stop as a theory and idealism.

From Jesus we learn that love and humility are the Christian qualities of the followers of Christ who inherit us from Christ not as mere teachings, but as a way of life, as a way of life.

A person who really loves, loves, not only with sweet and friendly words, but also in real action, in an act of love and solidarity, in a service full of humility. Am I loving and humble enough in the service?
